The Pressure is on in 6th Grade
Sixth Graders got an exciting visitor in science class this marking period. Kristie Mazzoni, Planetarium Director and Outreach Instructor from the Children’s Museum in West Hartford, brought exciting air pressure experiments to Tyrrell Middle School. Students used bell jars, tubes, and syringes to vary the air pressure and observe changes to marshmallows, balloons, shaving cream, and water. Mrs. Mazzoni also brought a large bell jar with electric pump as well as liquid nitrogen to demonstrate more exciting effects of reduced air pressure. The Diamond Team enjoyed the air pressure activities on May 30, and the Platinum will be treated to the fun learning experience on June 8. Mrs. Bove-Virr and Mr. Jones attended workshops presented by NASA in April and were able to get grant funding for the outreach program at no cost to Tyrrell students.
