Story Extension in 6th Grade

Mrs. Uccello and Mrs. Rosa’s 6th grade Reading classes visited Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. Stec’s Kindergarten classes at Wakelee School on April 24. The 6th graders read the sequels they wrote to the book, Strega Nona by Tomie de Paola and designed lesson plans around their stories for the Kindergarteners to complete. The lessons focused mainly on the retelling of a story in proper sequence and understanding the story’s theme. The 6th graders showed great teaching skills in preparing age appropriate lessons, and making the lessons engaging, and fun. The kindergarteners enjoyed hearing the stories and were engrossed in the lessons, showing all they learned by completing both hands on and written activities! It was a great learning experience for all!
